Glistening Raindrops on Pretty Azalea Flowers

Flashy azaleas: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy floral Friday! This week's post features beautiful azaleas from the National Arboretum's azalea collection. Their wooded azalea walk features the widest range of azalea varieties and colors that I've ever seen. At peak it is truly stunning but it's lovely even when the azaleas aren't blooming.

I took these photos between rain showers and the raindrops were still full and fresh.

Some of the flowers were so soaked they became almost translucent.

These bicolor azaleas are a favorite of mine, although I love them all.

These red azaleas looked especially nice with the mystery purple flowers in the background. If you know what the purple flowers are, please let me know.

Thank you for visiting! If you enjoyed this post, I'd appreciate a Google +1 and if you like the blog in general, a separate +1 for the main blog would be fabulous too. May God bless you!

First Daffodil of the Year Photos & Haiku (Short Poem)

This Saturday we saw our first daffodil bloom of 2013 on our walk through the Azalea collection at the U.S. National Arboretum. I love the yellow cheerful blooms of daffodils. Although it was a cold, gray day the daffodil sighting warmed my heart. Spring is on its way! I love how God uses the changing seasons to make me appreciate my favorite ones even more.

These three photos are of the same daffodil from different angles and with and without flash. It was the only daffodil blooming but there were also a host of snowdrops, crocus and cute little yellow flowers (maybe winter aconite?).
Hope this little touch of spring brightened your day! May God bless you!

Azalea Walk Photos

Every spring I look forward to walking through the U.S. National Arboretum's fantastic Azalea collections. The woods seem to burst with every color azalea in existence and it's a beautiful hike through the azalea laden forest. According to the Friends of the National Arboretum Save the Azalea & Boxwood Collections brochure, "nearly 10,000 azaleas cover Mount Hamilton at the U.S. National Arboretum in a blaze of color. The annual spectacle draws as many as 100,000 visitors to the Arboretum during peak blooming season in April and May."
