Primrose, Blind Baby Finch, Angelique Tulip, Baby Bunny and Daffodil

Yellow primrose: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2015
Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden"! Because I was under the weather and missed out on posting this week's "wild Wednesday" feature I decided to include some of my yard's wildlife in today's post.

As you can see in the photo above, our primroses are at peak; I love this cheery yellow one.

I'm no expert but I think this is a blind baby yellow finch. The other eye looks even worse than the one you can see in this image and it pokes around for a bit before finding the food hole. I am amazed at this little bird's tenacity and thrilled that we're able to contribute to its well being. It's the first blind bird I've ever noticed at our feeders.

The Angelique tulips are our favorite. The National Arboretum has a much larger collection of them (and theirs are even larger and nicer looking) but it's nice to have a few in our own yard.

Our first rabbit of the year has been feasting on our weeds (and hopefully will stay away from our flowers). We enjoy watching his cuteness hopping around the yard.

This might be the last of our daffodils but, by God's grace, there will be a nice variety of flowers coming throughout the year. Spring has just begun and I sure do appreciate its beauty.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you and those you love!

Which was your favorite picture? Do you have any tips for helping a blind bird survive in the wild? Or getting wild rabbits to eat just weeds and not flowers? I'd love to hear from you!

Cute Baby Bear Videos for Wild Wednesday

Happy wild Wednesday! I had the great blessing of seeing these adorable Andean bear cubs (also called "bespectacled bears") in their habitat at the Smithsonian's National Zoo this weekend. This is the third set of cubs I've enjoyed watching but the most exciting because they're the youngest and smallest that I've seen yet. I have three videos to share today. I put the top one first because it had the nicest thumbnail but my favorite is the second one where the little bear climbs up and down a tree. The third one is worth watching because I zoomed out so you could see how high up the little guys climbed. Their cuteness warmed my heart and I hope they make you smile.

These cute little animals are still fuzzy. They're a little wobbly but already great climbers.

The rumor is that the baby bears, health and weather permitting, will be out most mornings from ten to eleven am and longer as they grow stronger and more resilient (and possibly longer on warmer days too). Apparently these two brother bears love to climb so if you visit I hope you get to see them climb in person.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless these little bears and may He bless you too!

Baby Bull and Goofy Goats for Wild Wednesday

5 Day Old Baby Bull: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2014
Happy wild Wednesday! I was delighted to see a five day old baby bull at the Southern Maryland / Calvert County Fair. He was so adorable!  He almost looks like a baby deer in his close up (above).

Even with just a portion of his mother in the photo you can get an idea of his small size. I just love baby animals.

The two goats snuggling had been rubbing heads for a while but just when I snapped the photo one of their goofy friends stuck his head in the photo. I think this is my first goat photobomb. I had some funnier goat photos to share from the National Zoo but they seem to have disappeared from my computer. Should they turn up again I'll upload them right away for a future wild Wednesday post.

This goat was a ham and I loved his beard. It seems like he's grinning in this picture.

Hearty thanks to my friend Pam for taking me to the fair, the exhibitors for sharing their animals and all the fair volunteers who make the experience possible! May God bless them all and may He bless you too!

Baby Tigers Playing In Snow: Photos & Haiku Poem

It took multiple attempts but we finally got to see the National Zoo's tiger cubs playing in the snow. They were so feisty and cute that it was worth the effort. My husband and I were sharing and swapping cameras so I'm not sure which photos are his and which are mine but they're all posted with his kind blessing.
The baby tigers love chasing each other around this big tree trunk and throughout their habitat.
I think they look fuzzier in the winter and that just adds to their cuteness, even when they're putting all their strength into their playful activities.
Apparently tiger cubs make great wrestlers too. The baby tigers have grown since I last saw them but they're still little bundles of energy and lots of fun to watch.
Here's the haiku poem I wrote in honor of the cute tiger babies playing in the snow:

Playful tiger cubs-
fuzzy yet ferocious blurs-
romp in the fresh snow.

May God bless the tigers, their keepers and may He bless you too!

Cute Tiger Cubs Playing (Photos)

Baby Tiger Swats Mama Tiger Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, 11/2013
Here is the first set of baby tiger photos promised in yesterday's cute baby tiger video post.  Tiger cubs Sukacita and Bandar love playing together and with their mom in their habitat at the National Zoo in Washington D.C.

The tiger cubs are full of energy and enjoy play hunting while running and jumping around with their mom watching and sometimes participating in the fun. The mom is a big cat but I think little Bandar will be even bigger when he grows up. His paws, while still totally cute, are huge.

The baby tigers take playful nips at each others' nether regions while wrestling and investigating their space.

If you look closely in the photo above you can see one tiger cub hiding under the stairs and biting its sibling's nether area.

The fall leaves make great camoflauge for the baby tigers. If you look closely you'll see that there are two tiger cubs hiding under the stairs (the second has its head peeking out of the right side of the stair case).

I totally enjoyed every minute of my visit with the baby tigers and their mom. In my opinion, they are some of God's most beautiful creatures and I can't help but praise His amazing creativity and smile at their adorably cute antics. May God bless the tigers, the zoo staff and may He bless you too!
