Zoo Fun with Jen & Martin

My dear friends Martin and Jen traveled all the way from New England to visit with me and enjoy a trip to the National Zoo. My favorite part of the zoo is currently the baby tigers. I'm not sure whether it's Sukacita or Bandar (those are the tiger cubs' names) in the picture with Damai, their mom, but they were both still super cute, frisky and fun.

Before we left for the big zoo we spent some time in my personal zoo (my home) and Moose the cat basked in Jen and Martin's attention. Moose let Jen hold her body and Martin hold her head (she likes that, even if it does look weird). Feral born Baby cat let them look at her in her sleeping basket, which is more than a lot of visitors get (she mostly hides under the bed).

The Andean bear cubs were enjoying the sun when we walked up to their exhibit but seconds later their keeper rang the dinner bell and they ran off to eat.

We toured the invertebrate house and even viewed a lobster feeding (I took a video; if anyone's interested let me know and I'll upload it to YouTube and share the link on my blog).

Then we enjoyed the small mammal house. I spent far more time talking with my friends than taking pictures but still wanted to share a taste of the zoo. I hope you enjoyed it!

Tiger Cub Launches Sneak Attack

Bandar, the cute but most mischievous tiger cub at the National Zoo surprised his mom, Damai, by sneaking up behind her in the snow and pouncing on her back.

As you can see, little Bandar puts his all into his playful antics. His mom took the attack with good humor and simply shook him off her back.

Then she had to remind her growing baby boy tiger who was in charge.

 It almost look like he's "crying uncle" in this shot. I love his cute little paw pads.

He didn't learn his lesson (unless the lesson is that it's fun to attack his mama tiger) because he repeated his actions later and once again enjoyed play attacking his mom. The tigers are such beautiful animals and the cubs are full of energy and very fun to watch at play.

Praise the Lord for creating tigers and all forms of cute cats! May God bless you and those you love!

Baby Tigers Playing In Snow: Photos & Haiku Poem

It took multiple attempts but we finally got to see the National Zoo's tiger cubs playing in the snow. They were so feisty and cute that it was worth the effort. My husband and I were sharing and swapping cameras so I'm not sure which photos are his and which are mine but they're all posted with his kind blessing.

 The baby tigers love chasing each other around this big tree trunk and throughout their habitat.

I think they look fuzzier in the winter and that just adds to their cuteness, even when they're putting all their strength into their playful activities.

Apparently tiger cubs make great wrestlers too. The baby tigers have grown since I last saw them but they're still little bundles of energy and lots of fun to watch.

Here's the haiku poem I wrote in honor of the cute tiger babies playing in the snow:

Playful tiger cubs-

fuzzy yet ferocious blurs-

romp in the fresh snow.

The tiger cubs are full of energy and enjoy play hunting while running and jumping around with their mom watching and sometimes participating in the fun. The mom is a big cat but I think little Bandar will be even bigger when he grows up. His paws, while still totally cute, are huge.

The fall leaves make great camoflauge for the baby tigers. If you look closely you'll see that there are two tiger cubs hiding under the stairs (the second has its head peeking out of the right side of the stair case).

I totally enjoyed every minute of my visit with the baby tigers and their mom. In my opinion, they are some of God's most beautiful creatures and I can't help but praise His amazing creativity and smile at their adorably cute antics. Cute Baby Tiger Videos & Haiku Poem

Sumatran tiger cubs Bandar and Sukacita romped and played in their habitat in the National Zoo with their mom to the delight of a small crowd yesterday. They were out when we arrived around 10:15 am and went in around noon. I overheard one of the zoo volunteers telling another viewer that as long as their health and the Washington D.C. weather holds out the cubs should be out daily from around 10:00 am to soemtime between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. If you live within driving distance I think it's worth a trip to see these adorable baby tigers.

My husband liked the video above, of the baby tigers playing on stairs and then one rolling down and finally chasing after a leaf, best. I hope you like it too. You can hear the carousel music and a commentator from the crowd.

I thought this shorter clip of the baby tigers and their mom playing around the tree and then elsewhere in their habitat was fun too.

The tiger cubs are totally adorable. Once I have time to sort through our many regular pictures (the one at the top was a still shot taken from one of these two videos - my very first movie still shot too!) I plan another tiger baby post. Expect more in the future because I'm already asking my husband to plan another trip. They're irresistably cute and I love them already!

I wrote this haiku poem yesterday in tribute to the baby tigers' cuteness:

Cute Baby Tigers Haiku

Cute, furry and soft

Striped bundles of energy

Tiger cubs playing
