Happy St. Patrick's Day! Green Orchid Photos and Haiku Poems

Irish Blessing Plaque: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2017
Happy St. Patrick's Day and floral Friday! The plaque in the photo above has this Irish blessing:

"May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall gently upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand"

This plaque hangs, year round, in our bedroom. I am a wee bit Irish, after all.

I thought green orchids would be perfect for this St. Patrick's day post. The photos were taken at the U.S. National Arboretum in their Bonsai Museum. It's a great place to visit, any time of the year.

Back to St. Patrick's day. While praying and walking today, God gave me these two haiku poems.

St. Patrick's Day Haiku Poem I:
Saint Patrick was real!
He spread the gospel message
and loved our Lord God!

St. Patrick's Day Haiku Poem II:
He used shamrock leaves
to explain the Trinity:
Father, Son, Spirit.

Saint Patrick was a devoted Christian and I'm glad to celebrate his life by wearing green but I think loving God and serving others honor him best.

The photo above is an overview of the green "cymbodium goeringii" orchids in their pretty pot. When I first saw the pot, I thought it was a pot of grass! But when I looked more closely I could see the orchid flowers.

Kittens love an unmade bed: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2017
Just in case you wondered what our kittens were doing on St. Patrick's day - they were relaxing. Every time I went to make the bed, a cat was on it. It's late afternoon and I still haven't made the bed,  but the day isn't over. But their kittenhood almost is - they will be a year old a week from today!

May God bless you and all you love!

How do you celebrate Saint Patrick's Day?

Braveheart and the Sandman Kittens: Cuddling Cuteness

Cute kittens cuddle on couch: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2017
Happy wild Wednesday! I'm totally biased but I think these cuddling kittens are totally cute. They're huge for kittens and still growing. But they're still full of that baby cat energy and it's nice to catch them being still.

Cuteness! Two kittens hug sleeping. I love to see them like this. They totally love each other and cuddle often.

Of course, the clicking camera sometimes wakes them up. But they're cute that way too.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you!

Cute Kittens Wrestle and Surrender

Braveheart licking surrendering Sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy wild Wednesday! Our feral-born kittens, Braveheart and the Sandman entertained us this week by wrestling in one of their sleeping baskets. Braveheart is smaller but clearly has the better wrestling moves. However, the Sandman wins extra points for extreme cuteness with this double paw surrender pose.

You'd think they'd want separate baskets to have more room but even when I placed identical baskets side by side they chose to stay together in one. We love how much they love each other.

Although it looks like Braveheart is trying to smother her brother, she's really just trying to pin him down to groom him.
Braveheart headlocks the Sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Braveheart has mastered putting her brother in a headlock. Don't worry though, he could breathe and could defend himself if he wanted. He weighs about a pound more than she does.
Braveheart and the Sandman sleeping: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Once Braveheart finished grooming/wrestling her brother they both snuggled and surrendered to sleep. Aren't they cute kittens?

They already weigh almost as much as Baby, their 16 year old housemate cat but they're still growing so I suspect they'll end up being much bigger than her. I hope they learn to all get along but for now Baby doesn't care for the kittens. The kittens love her though, so if Baby ever changes her mind maybe I'll have photos of a three cat snuggle.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you and those you love!

Black Cat, Pink Tongue Cuteness - Photos by Ben Wheeler

Baby cat with tongue out: Copyright © Ben Wheeler, 2015
Happy wild Wednesday! My talented husband took these photos of my precious Baby cat (who is fifteen years old but still petite) while she was camped out between my ankles. The photos make me smile and I'm thankful he let me share them with you. I think she's super cute all the time but even more so with her little pink tongue sticking out.

She'd had her tongue out for a while when he went to get the camera but she starting pulling it back in as soon as he took the first photo.

And then she'd had enough and soon went to sleep. Technically, I think she will always be considered a feral cat but she's the best cat I've ever had and I love her.

Hearty thanks to my hubby for taking and sharing these cute cat photos! May God bless him and may He bless you too!

Moose, Bunny and Baby for Wild Wednesday

Moose the cat in garden: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2015
Happy wild Wednesday! Moose the cat loves to tour the garden with me. She doesn't seem to have any hunting instinct so the yard birds and bunnies are safe.

Moose is a geriatric cat, at 19-20 years of age. At one point she weighed 13 pounds but now she hovers around 6 pounds. Her abundant fur hides her extreme slimness but other than arthritis and random dementia related yowling she seems very healthy and happy.

This cute and wild yard bunny is enjoying a cool shady spot.

Inside, my little Baby cat (who turned 15 this year) relaxes in her special cat bed. Even though she looks much smaller than Moose the cat, Baby currently outweighs her. Moose just looks larger because of all her extra fur.
Sleepy Baby cat: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2015
Moose is more photogenic but Baby is my favorite cat of all time. I think she's adorable even in a blurry picture. Few people ever get to see her outside of photos because she's feral born and tends to hide whenever we have company but she's devoted to me and I adore her.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you and those you love!

Clearing Cabinet Clutter & Clutter Curbing Cat

While I love the energy and immediate results of a quick clutter clearing session, sometimes health, energy or time only allow for short little bits of clutter busting. Based on the photo dates, this cabinet took me at least from January 12 to 24 to clear of clutter.

The "before" photo is on the left and the "after" photo is on the right. I believe, based on the thick sweaters to the left and black socks scattered here and there in the "before" photo, that I started before January 12 because when I started on this cabinet it was crammed full and there was no room for even the socks.

I decided to put the socks in there to make them easier to reach once a little space was cleared. In the "after" photo you can see that all the socks now fit on one shelf. I've since moved my white and fleece socks to the shelf below and now all of the socks I regularly wear are easy to reach. In addition, the cabinet now holds my warmest winter sweaters, alternate winter bedding, extra pillows, a treasured afghan made by a precious friend and travel supplies.

If you've been following my blog you know organizing is a love of mine and clutter clearing an ongoing goal. My health has not been great lately but I still aim to clear a little clutter every day, even if it's just one item. Knowing that I haven't missed a day in over a year makes me want to keep the streak going. Sometimes it's random items and sometimes it'll be focused on one area (like the cabinet above). I currently have four of these cabinets in our master bedroom and I'd like to eliminate them and eventually consolidate things into our existing closets and other more attractive furniture. The other three cabinets have clothing. One is already clutter busted, so keep an eye out for the next clutter busted cabinet post soon.
My cute little cat, Baby, loves to watch me clear clutter. And when I find an item she might enjoy playing with we take a little break and have fun. She absolutely loved this gold tassel and when she flipped it over her head and it landed on her ear I couldn't resist taking her photo. She's the best clutter clearing helper. When I'm not sure whether to keep something I let her smell it and usually while she's investigating I have my answer. She gets rewarded with petting and everyone's happy.

Do you have any clutter busting tips? I'd love to hear them! May God bless you and yours!

Happy Halloween Cats and Flowers

Cute Halloween cat: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2014
Happy Halloween and harvest time! Unlike easygoing Moose the cat, my feral born cat (Baby) doesn't take well to costumes so I usually just place props around her for photo sessions. As promised in Wednesday's post, today's post includes viking and cowgirl Halloween cat photos too. Enjoy!

Because Halloween also falls on floral Friday, I thought I'd include these pretty Halloween inspired flowers my dear husband bought me.

Moose looks fierce in this photo but really she was just eyeing the bag of post photo session treats.
Baby the viking cat: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2014
Baby looks even fiercer but she was just yawning. She eventually fell asleep with her head resting on the (totally safe) battle axe prop.

My husband bought this blonde wig and cowgirl hat for Moose and I thought this was a funny photo. She got extra treats for this one.

I hope this Halloween brings you many treats and no tricks. May God bless you!

Lion Cubs, Lion Dad, Clouded Leopard and Lemurs

Luke the lion basks in sun: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, July 2014
Happy wild Wednesday! Yesterday my dear friend Pam and I enjoyed a trip to the National Zoo. Our primary goal was to view the six cute lion cubs but Pam also wanted to see the other big cats and the funny lemurs. Luke, the lion cub's dad, lounged in the sun while his cute cubs alternated between resting and playing. I love Luke's majestic male lion mane.

This cub was watching his mom come near. I have another lion cub post planned with a surprise photo of what he does when mom arrives. Come back soon for more cute lion cub pictures!

I love how this cub curled his tail and closed his eyes in sunbeam enjoyment happiness. This is one cute lion!

The lemurs were hilarious, even though they didn't move from their cluster on their tree house. I love how the middle lemur noticed me and looked me right in the camera eye when I took this photo.
Rare clouded leopard: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, July 2014
Usually, if we're lucky enough to see the clouded leopard, she's asleep. But yesterday she spent some time sniffing the air and looking around. I have selected five even better clouded leopard photos to share with you in a future wild Wednesday post so be sure to check back weekly if you love big cats!

Heartfelt thanks to Pam for driving and sharing her precious time with me! May God bless Pam, the zoo residents and staff, and may He bless you too!

Six Cute Little Lion Cubs Romp and Rest

Two litters of lion cubs: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, June 2014
Happy wild Wednesday! I took these photos on the Saturday before Father's day when the four smaller lions made their public debut at the National Zoo and joined their two slightly older cousins in the yard. They had a great time playing and running around together and were a delight to watch.
Cute lion cub with mom: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, June 2014
You may have noticed that the first photo had only five cubs but rest assured that all six were out and having a great time. Sometimes one would rest with mom but a few minutes later would resume romping again.

They especially seemed to enjoy jumping on each other, on this set of stairs and on rock piles.

The cubs' adorable smallness was even more obvious when they were near their mom.

I love how fuzzy the baby lions are and notice how this little cub still has its spots. Cuteness!

I almost left out this shot (I usually try to keep posts to five photos or less) but the log gnawing combined with standing on two still-spotted legs was too cute to resist.

I hope you enjoyed sharing this special experience with me via photographs. May God bless these lion families, their keepers and may He bless you too!

Cute Little Lion Cub Photos

Cute baby lion: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, June 2014
Happy wild Wednesday! The lion cubs were frisky and fun to watch this week at the National Zoo. As adorable as these two baby lions are, I'm thinking that when joined by their four slightly younger cousins (predicted for this coming Father's Day weekend) the cuteness will be even greater. The adorable baby lion above is about to pounce on his sister.

Here you see the brother and sister lion cubs followed by their mom. They make a cute lion train.
Baby lion chews on wood: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, June 2014
I thought it was really strange when my feral born cat chewed on some mulch but apparently cats like to chew on wood, given that this lion cub was gnawing on this branch.
Mama and baby lion: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, June 2014
Sometimes the cubs' mom let them jump on and off walls but other times she stopped them. If they didn't listen to her warning growls they received a physical reprimand.
Lion cub protests: Copyright © by Phyllis Wheeler, June 2014
And that reprimand didn't look like much fun but it was only seconds later until the cub was off running around so it must have appeared worse than it felt. The lion cubs are adorable and, according to regular viewers, usually out starting around 11:00 am.

I hope you enjoyed these cute little lion photos! May the God who created the lions, our earth and everything in it bless and keep you!

Little Lion Cubs for Wild Wednesday

This weekend I was totally blessed by watching two of the National Zoo's super cute lion babies playing in their outside habitat. They had calm moments, like the lounging lion cub above, and wild moments on their own, together and with their mom and aunt. Their aunt had a litter of four more cubs and rumor has it that those cubs will be on view around Father's day.
I loved these adorable little lion cubs at first sight when they dashed into the yard full of energy.
You can see how small the cubs are compared to their mama lion.
The lion cubs aren't as stealthy as they think they are (their mom seemed to know where they were at all times) but they are definitely fun to watch.
Even something simple like chewing on a log is incredibly cute (consider the paw to head size ratio - adorable)!

May God bless the lions, their keepers and may He bless you too, dear friend!
