Golden Finch & Hummingbird for Wild Wednesday

Happy wild Wednesday! It's a rainy winter day here in Maryland so I thought it'd be nice to brighten things up with some summer bird photos. Hummingbirds often rested (and one year, even nested!) in our rose of Sharon bushes so we put the feeder right in front of them for easy access.

Last summer was my first year planting giant zinnias and they were a big hit with the butterflies and small birds, particularly the golden finches. God willing, I'll plant more giant zinnias this summer to continue the fun.

But for now, planting is just a dream. The snow from the blizzard is melting and it feels like spring but winter is definitely still here.

Thank you for visiting. I hope that you are safe and warm. May God bless you!

Yellow Finches Feeding

Happy wild Wednesday! We're enjoying some lovely cool weather here in Maryland and the little birds seem especially happy. I hope these two bright yellow finches make you smile.

Someone told me that they're not really called yellow finches but are truly golden finches. I haven't looked it up yet but I imagine either name is ok. To me, they look more yellow than golden.

I love their bright yellow color but like their distinct white and black markings too.

It's nice to see them enjoying our feeders and flitting about our rose of Sharon bushes.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless our feathered friends and may He bless you too!

Yellow Finch Feeding on Black Eyed Susan Flowers for Wild Wednesday

Find the yellow finch
Happy wild Wednesday everyone! I was blessed to see this yellow finch feeding on one of our black eyed Susan plants. Can you find the finch in the overview photo above? What first caught my eye was the bird's movement. It took me a bit to realize it was a bird in the blooms. Close up photos are below. PS If you're viewing this directly on my blog you should be able to click any of the images to bring up a larger slideshow version of them all.

I love the little legs and claws on the yellow finch.

This bush is like yellow finch camouflage.

The bird was just pausing between munches but I think of this as a peek-a-boo shot.

Here you can see the yellow finch digging for seeds. Hope you enjoyed this week's wild Wednesday photos! May God bless you!
