Braveheart and the Sandman Kittens: Cuddling Cuteness

Cute kittens cuddle on couch: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2017
Happy wild Wednesday! I'm totally biased but I think these cuddling kittens are totally cute. They're huge for kittens and still growing. But they're still full of that baby cat energy and it's nice to catch them being still.

Cuteness! Two kittens hug sleeping. I love to see them like this. They totally love each other and cuddle often.

Of course, the clicking camera sometimes wakes them up. But they're cute that way too.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you!

Skipper Butterfly on Orange Zinnia

Skipper on orange zinnia: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy wild Wednesday! We must have more than 50 of these skipper butterflies in our garden. They seem to particularly enjoy the zinnias, marigolds, butterfly bushes and tithonia, although I see them on other flowers too. I hope my photo brightened your day! May God bless you!

Butterflies on Mexican Sunflowers at Brookside Gardens

Butterfly on tithonia: Copyright © Ben Wheeler, 2016, used with permission
Happy wild Wednesday! Since I haven't been able to get a nice picture of my own Mexican sunflowers (also called tithonia) yet this year I took some at the Brookside Gardens "Wings of Fancy" butterfly exhibit. Their tithonia had many beautiful butterflies flitting from flower to flower and even some resting on the foliage.

The first image is by my talented husband, who was kind enough to let me share it with you here. I thought his picture was the best but wanted you to see the flowers from different angles so am sharing some of mine too.

If you click to see the larger image you should be able to clearly see the butterfly's eyes. Pretty neat.

I think this might be a Monarch butterfly but it seems darker than the ones I see in my yard so maybe it's a different, but similar, kind of butterfly.
Butterfly on "thrive" hat: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
The kind mom of the adorable little girl wearing this "thrive" hat let me take this photo of the butterfly on top. She was very excited to have a butterfly land on her head and stay there a while. Thank you to them both for sharing!

I had one land on my hand, which was amazing! It even stayed a while. But it was on the same hand I was holding my camera with so I didn't get a photo. It's always touching to have a butterfly choose to land on you so I felt blessed by that. Of course, just seeing so many butterflies floating around is a huge blessing. I've enjoyed every trip to the butterfly exhibit, whether one landed on me or not.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless my husband, the family that shared their butterfly hat experience, and YOU!

Cute Kittens Wrestle and Surrender

Braveheart licking surrendering Sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy wild Wednesday! Our feral-born kittens, Braveheart and the Sandman entertained us this week by wrestling in one of their sleeping baskets. Braveheart is smaller but clearly has the better wrestling moves. However, the Sandman wins extra points for extreme cuteness with this double paw surrender pose.
Braveheart sitting on the Sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
You'd think they'd want separate baskets to have more room but even when I placed identical baskets side by side they chose to stay together in one. We love how much they love each other.
Braveheart muzzling the sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Although it looks like Braveheart is trying to smother her brother, she's really just trying to pin him down to groom him.
Braveheart headlocks the Sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Braveheart has mastered putting her brother in a headlock. Don't worry though, he could breathe and could defend himself if he wanted. He weighs about a pound more than she does.
Braveheart and the Sandman sleeping: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Once Braveheart finished grooming/wrestling her brother they both snuggled and surrendered to sleep. Aren't they cute kittens?

They already weigh almost as much as Baby, their 16 year old housemate cat but they're still growing so I suspect they'll end up being much bigger than her. I hope they learn to all get along but for now Baby doesn't care for the kittens. The kittens love her though, so if Baby ever changes her mind maybe I'll have photos of a three cat snuggle.

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you and those you love!

Stretching Kitten for Wild Wednesday

Sandman the kitten: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy wild Wednesday! Just a short post today. The summer heat is getting to the kittens, who are lounging about lazily. I thought this photo of our Sandman kitten was funny. He started to reach for something and then gave up and just stayed there. Cuteness!

Thank you for visiting! May God bless you and those you love!

Cute Kittens Yawning and Cuddling

Braveheart the kitten- tongue out: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy wild Wednesday! Our cute feral born kittens continue to delight us. I took these photos two days after their spay/neuter surgeries. I love the first photo because it looks like Braveheart is sticking her tongue out at us but really she's just yawning.

He loves sleeping on his back, paws up. Both kittens do, but the Sandman does it more often. If you'd like to see more kitten photos, please comment below.

Summer Wildlife at Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens

Wild deer foraging for food: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Happy wild Wednesday! My husband and I recently visited Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens and were thrilled to see so much wildlife, especially because we visited on a hot afternoon. The first three photos are by me and the last two were generously shared by my talented husband. We hope you enjoy them all.

The deer in the top photo was eating leaves and definitely knew we were there as she kept looking right at us. The red headed little reptile didn't appear to see me until I took its photo.

Can you see the tiny spider? She's camouflaged well on one of the magnolia leaves.

And this little striped reptile was too fast for me but my husband photographed it dashing for cover.

Hearty thanks to my dear husband for sharing his photos with us! May God bless him and may He bless you too!

Braveheart and the Sandman - Our New Kittens!

Braveheart the kitten: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
This might be my most exciting Wild Wednesday post yet! This week we welcomed home our two adorable and feisty new kittens, Braveheart and the Sandman. They're about nine weeks old and super cute. Braveheart is a fearless little girl who is determined to conquer every inch of her domain.
The Sandman: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
The Sandman has a fascination with the litter box and lives his little cat life full throttle. His foster mom called him "Spot" because of his unusual nose markings. He's almost half a pound heavier than his sister but he scares easily and often runs to me for protection from loud noises outside.

This amazing sleeping-cuddling-kitten-cuteness photo of Braveheart, the Sandman and their siblings is by their kindhearted and generous foster mom. Hearty thanks to Kelli for sharing her photo, raising these kittens and caring for their feral mom until they were old enough to come to our home! You, Ellen and friends are making the world a better place! Thank you all!
Braveheart and the Sandman playing: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
It doesn't seem to matter what I put in this bowl, the kittens will play with it and have fun fishing it out. Braveheart also likes to curl up in the bowl when it's empty. I remove toys that have parts that could come off (like the mouse in the photo above) when I leave their quarantine room (they have worms, which is pretty normal for feral born kittens, but means they can't be introduced to my elder cat for a few more weeks). But they have some safer toys that stay 24/7. They are happy, healthy except for the worms, and well loved.
16 year old Baby cat's reaction to kittens: Copyright © Phyllis Wheeler, 2016
Friends keep asking for Baby cat's reaction to the kittens. Mostly, she doesn't seem to care a bit! That may change when they come out of quarantine but for now, I try to visit with the kittens only when Baby's asleep because she has some separation anxiety whenever she's apart from me. She sat outside the door and cried the one time I visited with the kittens when she was awake. But when I came out she didn't try to get in to see the kittens; she just wanted to be with me so I gave her lots of love and all was well.

If you'd like to see more kitten pictures I've been posting daily on my Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/lovejoypeas/ It's embarassing to admit but I don't yet know how to get photos from my phone to the computer (other than by emailing them to myself one at a time) so that's why some will be here and others there. The kittens try to attack the straps on the camera so it's easier to take photos of them with the phone (no straps to attack).

Thank you for visiting! May God bless our kitties, Kelli, Ellen and the cat saviors, and may He bless you too!
