Rose, Zinnia, Dahlia, Salvia and Obedient Plant Flowers

Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" The roses look especially nice with dew or raindrops on their velvety petals.

The zinnias are doing great and I think this little pink one with light green petals around the center is especially cute.

Dahlia production has slowed so they probably need fertilizer but this pretty yellow and red bicolor dahlia still has a few blooms.

This week our blue hummingbird-attracting salvia started blooming. I haven't seen a hummingbird on it yet but we have a few that visit our feeders and I hope they notice these flowers too.

The obedient plants are blooming nicely and often are covered in bees and a scattering of butterflies.

It's a pretty time of the year for Maryland flower gardening and I do love our flowers. Hope you enjoy this week's photos! May God bless you!

Summer Flowers for Shade and Sun

Happy August, floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" The pretty white impatiens flowers are brightening a shady area.

This hosta blooms even in our deepest shade.

This patch of black eyed Susan flowers blooms even under the shady canopy of several trees. It only gets a little filtered light but I think there are just as many blooms as our other black eyed Susan plants in full sun.

This yellow coreopsis is a volunteer baby of our red coreopsis and thrives in our hottest, full sun flower bed.

This obedient plant is blooming in full sun but we also have some in shady areas that bloom, although not as profusely.

This tiny bicolor fairy marigold is blooming in part sun.

It's fun to have flowers for both shady and sunny areas. Which is your favorite?

Chrysanthemum, Obedient Plant, Tithonia, Dahlia and Bachelor Button Bloom Photos

Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" Our first chrysanthemum flowers of the year appeared this week. I love this sunny yellow color.

The obedient plants line our side yard and are attracting many bees. Usually they are also covered in butterflies but this year we haven't seen as many butterflies as usual.

This week also saw our first and second tithonia blooms. These are plants we start from seed every year and we got a late start so it's no surprise that they're late in blooming but the flowers are welcome. Usually they attract butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.

I took this photo after a heavy rain and the beautiful dahlia was soaked. I love the varied colors in the dahlia and different shapes of the raindrops.

Last week I showed you our miraculous first bachelor button flower but it wasn't the healthiest looking thing so here's a nicer photo. They're small, delicate flowers.

Chrysanthemum, Zinnia, Tiny Marigold, Verbena and Flower Arrangement Photos

Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" Fall has arrived and the chrysanthemums are starting to bloom. It's a beautiful season. Autumn blessings to you and yours!

Last week's post featured some of the flowers I entered in my local county fair. I made this arrangement out of some of the survivors (they'd been cut for the fair over a week before I got them back so it's a blessing that any survived at all). I believe the little cup/vase contains: yellow, orange and pink zinnias; yellow chrysanthemums, Mexican bush sage and a caladium leaf.

The zinnias have been the star of our garden this year. Last year it was dahlias. Will be interesting to see what happens next year.

These are the smallest marigolds I've ever grown. Most are under 1/2" in diameter. They didn't bloom until late in the summer but I'm glad they finally did.

I found this pretty bicolor verbena struggling under the giant red zinnias. I'm sharing the photo to remind myself to mark it so I don't plant zinnias all around it next year.

The garden is winding down but we still have one kind of chrysanthemum that hasn't bloomed yet so you'll get at least one more floral Friday/Maryland garden post this year. Then I hope to sprinkle in photos taken in other gardens this summer to brighten some of our winter Fridays.

Dew Drops, Bees and Pretty Flowers

Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" Today's post includes flower photos from two different sessions. One in the cool of the morning while the flowers were still drenched in dew and one in the heat of the afternoon with bright sun and buzzing bees.

It amazes me that the evening primroses do so well because my husband's always pulling them out but I'm glad they are tough because I enjoy their delicate pink and white flowers.

I loved how the bee tipped up the petal of this red coreopsis flower so we can see the pretty underside, which is more of a creamy yellow with red striping.

And this bee enjoyed buzzing from coneflower to coneflower.

I thought this was my most artistic flower photo of the week but I'm not sure whether I like this super close up rose photo or the dewdrop rose photo better. Which do you prefer?

Dahlia with Skipper, Unusual Zinnias, Vinca and Dill

Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" It's been hot and we've lost some plants but overall the flowers are doing great despite the heat.

I love these puffy, pom pom type zinnias and this pink one is my favorite of the bunch.

We've got a variety of vina flowers but this was the prettiest of the week.

In the naturalized herb garden we have this volunteer dill and I like its cheerful yellow flowers.

And the giant red zinnias are going strong. Some are nearly five feet tall and need staking. But it's worth the effort for their gorgeous flowers.

Dahlias, Chrysanthemums, Petunias Plus a Bee and a Cat

Happy floral Friday and welcome to "this week in my Maryland garden!" I love this white, bronze and yellow dahlia and hope we can harvest a few more flowers before our first hard frost sets in.

The purple dahlias are still going strong, to the bee's delight and mine.

The yellow-bronze chrysanthemums are nearing the end of their bloom time but hopefully we'll have some peach daisy-like chrysanthemum blooms soon.

Moose the cat escaped (we'd prefer that she were solely and indoor cat but she wants the best of both worlds) and took refuge under the rose bushes. Never fear, she's safely back inside now. How does this photo relate to floral Friday? You can see some lantana blooms in the far background.
